Ex-NFL GM says Jordan Love will be Packers Week 1 starter

With Aaron Rodgers holding out, the Green Bay Packers are getting a great look at Jordan Love this spring. Does it lead to him starting Week 1?

It’s June, so most NFL takes are going to be even hotter than the current weather.

In this respect, former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum didn’t disappoint. On Wednesday, the ESPN analyst stated his belief that the Green Bay Packers will be starting Jordan Love in Week 1 on the road against the New Orleans Saints.

Clearly, Tannenbaum believes the Packers are going to be trading MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers between now and the start of the regular season. He’s certainly not alone in that belief, although it’s worth noting Green Bay has repeatedly said it won’t deal the 37-year-old superstar.

Could the Packers actually start Jordan Love in Week 1?

If Rodgers gets traded, would Love certainly be the starter? It’s hard to say. For example, if Green Bay sent Rodgers to the Denver Broncos, one would imagine Teddy Bridgewater coming back in any package. If that’s the case, Bridgewater would have a good chance of starting until Love was ready to get on the field.

The same is true if Rodgers ends up with Jon Gruden and the Las Vegas Raiders. Again, Derek Carr would likely be headed to Wisconsin in that deal, and would easily be the starter for at least one season.

For the Packers and their fans, the waiting game with Rodgers continues as he held out through OTAs and has not done so through mandatory minicamp. The next important date? July 27, when all 32 NFL training camps open.
