According to former NFL wideout Chris Sanders, the Cleveland Browns have the best wide receiver combination in the league.
Now more than ever, wide receiver duos are becoming more popular than just a prime No .1 target. Teams that have two standouts usually feel better about their passing attack than just with one name on the roster.
With Julio Jones headed to the Tennessee Titans, some believe that his addition with A.J. Brown gives them the best tandem. Of course, during his time in Atlanta, others thought he with Calvin Ridley were a name on the rise. Then there’s Tampa Bay with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin or Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen in the running as well.
Former NFL wide receiver Chris Sanders might be going off a different path. Although a “Titan for life,” he believes the best tandem actually belongs to the Cleveland Browns.
“You got [Jarvis] Landry and Odell Beckham, they’re are just guys who continuously make plays,” Sanders told FanSided’s Matt Lombardo on the Matt Lombardo Show.
Do the Cleveland Browns have the best WR tandem?
The expectation when Beckham was traded from New York to Cleveland was his status would elevate the Browns’ offense. Landry already made a name for himself in 2019 as Baker Mayfield’s go-to, but adding his former LSU teammate would only provide more stability.
So far, the results have been mixed to say the least.
OBJ’s first season in Cleveland saw him record 1,035 receiving yards, but a mere four touchdowns. Prior to suffering a torn ACL, Beckham recorded 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns.
Landry inside has been more consistent during the same span. In 2019, he actually played the leading role with 83 catches for 1,174 yards and six touchdowns. Despite a down season, his 840 receiving yards were the most for Cleveland on the way to a divisional round appearance against Kansas City.
After making the postseason for the first time in 18 years, Cleveland is hopeful Landry and Beckham can meet the expectations. Mayfield flourished without looking to target Beckham consistently. Will the former All-Pro be content with less passes if the team is winning more games.
“You may have some top tier receivers, but the offensive coordinators have to put them in positions to make plays,” Sanders said.
Entering 2021, Sanders could see multiple duos thrive. Based off talent alone? Cleveland takes the cake.
