Tua Tagovailoa is off to a miserable start at Dolphins minicamp.
The Miami Dolphins have high expectations for Tua Tagovailoa coming into his second season in the NFL. He led the team to a 6-3 record as a starter and had them right in the thick of the AFC playoff picture. With Ryan Fitzpatrick in Washington, it is now time for the Alabama alum to prove that he’s the franchise guy for Miami.
Well, things haven’t started so great, at least at minicamp.
Tagovailoa is struggling to throw passes to his offensive teammates during 7-on-7’s. According to Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad, the second-year quarterback has thrown five interceptions during Tuesday’s minicamp.
Those five picks don’t include one that was dropped by Noah Igbinoghene, Sun Sentinel reporter Saif Deen tweeted. He also added it is pouring rain during the 7-on-7’s, which could be contributing to Tagovailoa’s struggles.

Throwing five interceptions in any circumstance is worthy of a raised eyebrow, but is it something the Dolphins should be truly concerned about?
They’d rather him make these mistakes against his own teammates than in a regular season, but they weren’t expecting their former first-round pick to perform like this entering year two.
It’s only June, and it is a long way until the start of the NFL season. Tua Tagovailoa is having a rough go of things early on, but hopefully, he and the Dolphins fix any issues he’s having soon. Maybe it’s truly the rain, maybe it’s not.
Nevertheless, Tagovailoa’s subpar play at minicamp is something that Miami needs to address.
