Patrick Mahomes has to be the better bet long-term over Josh Allen in the AFC hierarchy.

Even if the Buffalo Bills made their franchise quarterback Josh Allen a very wealthy man on Friday, he still plays in the same AFC with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

A year separates them in terms of age, but the AFC has a very bright future at the quarterback position with these two in tote. While Mahomes has already brought unprecedented success to Chiefs Kingdom, one would be foolish to count out Allen doing the same for Bills Mafia. However, Mahomes and the Chiefs are in a better situation to succeed long-term over Allen and the Bills.

Here are three reasons why Mahomes will win more battles over Allen in the AFC landscape.

3 reasons why to side with Patrick Mahomes over Josh Allen in the long-term

3. Patrick Mahomes has Hall-of-Fame-level weapons and Josh Allen does not

Of course, this could be a moot point in a matter of a season or two, but for now, Mahomes has the superior offensive weaponry around him over Allen. While Allen has an All-Pro wide receiver in Stefon Diggs, he is not anywhere close to being Canton-bound like Tyreek Hill might be one day and like Travis Kelce absolutely will be once he does decide to hang up the spikes years from now.

Though we have seen Allen and Mahomes carry their teams at times, you are really only going to go as far as your supporting cast around you. Mahomes does not win NFL MVP or get to two Super Bowls without the help of Hill and Kelce. Perhaps Diggs can be just that for Allen one day, but we have only seen them work together for one season. After two years, this all could change.

No, it is not like Bills general manager Brandon Beane cannot get elite talent and put it around his quarterback. He has done a fantastic job since taking over in Orchard Park, much like what Brett Veach has done in Kansas City. The small-market nature of these two teams does not matter, as they are both well-run currently. What does matter is Mahomes has a bit of a head start in this aspect.

Allen needs Diggs to not only be a Hall-of-Famer, but he needs a second star weapon to emerge fast.
