Russell Wilson may be returning to Seahawks sooner than expected

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson may be able to return sooner than expected, according to the latest injury update.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is currently on the IR with an injured right middle finger. Wilson suffered the injury during Seattle’s 26-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

Prior to the injury, Wilson was in the midst of another great season; he posted 1,196 passing yards, ten passing touchdowns, and one interception in five starts. His quarterback rating of 125.2 is the highest in the NFL.

Fortunately, he may be able to return sooner than expected. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Wilson is set to have the pin removed from his finger within the next week, and he has a shot at “an immediate return” from the IR.

Russell Wilson may return to Seahawks within the next week

Since Wilson was placed on the IR, he has to miss a minimum of three games. The earliest Wilson could potentially return is November 14th, in which the Seahawks will be matched up against the Green Bay Packers.

In Wilson’s absence, veteran Geno Smith started at quarterback for the Seahawks last week. Smith had a solid performance against Pittsburgh’s tough defense with 209 yards and a touchdown, but ultimately, the Seahawks were defeated in overtime 20-23 after Smith was stripped by T.J. Watt.

Smith will try to keep the 2-4 Seahawks alive in the playoff race until Wilson returns. He will face another tough matchup on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints defense is allowing the second-lowest passer rating to opposing quarterbacks this season. In addition, their defense has nine interceptions, which is the third-most in the NFL.
