Wild card option emerging as potential Ben Roethlisberger replacement for Steelers

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are intent on replacing Ben Roethlisberger through the NFL Draft, they should take a look at Wake Forest Demon Deacons quarterback Sam Hartman.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been able to find a ton of success over the years thanks in large part due to the impressive and consistent play of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. But everything must eventually come to an end, and that includes Pittsburgh’s time with their longtime quarterback.

As the Steelers start searching around for Roethlisberger’s replacement, they’ll want to consider the upcoming NFL Draft. And as the Steelers start doing research, they should take a look at Wake Forest Demon Deacons quarterback Sam Hartman.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Hartman led Wake Forest to an 8-0 record before losing a heartbreaker, 58-55 to North Carolina on Saturday. Hartman threw for 398 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 78 yards and two more scores.

Sam Hartman might just be the quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers need to replace Ben Roethlisberger

The Steelers will need to figure out something in the relatively near future. Roethlisberger won’t be able to play forever and there are a few interesting options available in this upcoming draft class.

Hartman has been able to do a little bit of everything for the Demon Deacons all season long. Coming into Wake Forest’s game against the Tar Heels, Hartman had thrown for 2,475 yards and 22 touchdowns against just three interceptions all while completing 65.2 percent of his passes. In addition to that, Hartman has 208 yards and six touchdowns on 50 carries for Wake Forest.

He’s versatile and appears capable of elevating a team around him. While he may not be as physically imposing as some other quarterbacks, he’s shown he can be a winner. That’s rare for Wake Forest quarterbacks.
