Chiefs get great update on Tyrann Mathieu knee injury

The Kansas City Chiefs got a scare on Sunday morning, but then some great follow-up news with Tyrann Mathieu being active against the Dallas Cowboys.

If the Kansas City Chiefs are going to make their move in the AFC, they need Tyrann Mathieu.

Mathieu, who practiced all week without an injury designation in preparation for the Dallas Cowboys, suddenly popped up on the injury report Sunday morning with a knee ailment. However, after working out with head trainer Rick Burkholder prior to the contest, Mathieu was deemed able to play. He’s active for the game.

Tyrann Mathieu will play against the Cowboys for Chiefs on Sunday

Additionally, minutes before the inactive lists came out, Mathieu sent out this cryptic tweet. Not sure what the motivation was, but the All-Pro safety will be playing.

With Mathieu in the lineup, Kansas City won’t have to disrupt a defense that over its three-game winning streak, is allowing a league-low 21 percent on third down conversions. Over the past five weeks, the Chiefs are 4-1 with the defense leading the way, surrendering 15 points per game.

Kansas City enters Sunday afternoon at 6-4 and trying to hold onto first place in the AFC West. The Chiefs began the year at 3-4 but have since rattled off wins over the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders.

After Dallas, the Chiefs have their bye week before hosting the Denver Broncos and Raiders in consecutive weeks. Then, a Thursday night showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers, which could decide the AFC West.
