The Saints need to sign Philip Rivers right now

After a rough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it’s more than clear that the New Orleans Saints need to get Philip Rivers to town as soon as possible.

With Jameis Winston out for the season due to his torn ACL, the New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton have had to start Trevor Siemian at quarterback. Things have gone about as poorly as expected with him running the show.

While Siemian has starter experience and can spin it at times, he’s simply nowhere near the level the Saints need him to be if they want to make noise the rest of the campaign. With that said, Philip Rivers had previously said he’d listen to New Orleans if they came calling. So, why haven’t they picked up the phone?

Philip Rivers joining the Saints needs to happen as soon as possible

In the 40-29 loss to the Eagles, Siemian ended up throwing for 214 yards and three touchdowns, though his final one came in garbage time. He also added a rushing score, but he did toss two interceptions. The offense just doesn’t look sharp with him under center. Philly dominated this one from start to finish.

With that said, Rivers could step onto the field and really provide the offensive unit with some much-needed energy. Rivers just retired this past offseason, but perhaps he’s not ready to put his playing days completely behind him just yet.

Imagine if New Orleans were to go out and sign him to be the starter for the rest of the campaign. He could showcase his rocket for an arm this winter and help New Orleans push for the playoffs. With the Saints at 5-5 right now, they’ll need to record some big-time wins to get themselves into the postseason. Siemian doesn’t appear like the right guy to lead the way. Rivers does.
