Bill Belichick offers Thanksgiving wisdom: ‘Starch me up’

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick offered his take on what is the best Thanksgiving side dish. Spoiler: it involves starch.

Thanksgiving is just days away, which means you are bound to hear the debate on which side dish is the best. Whether it is at work or among your group of friends. Perhaps take some advice from head coach of the first-place New England Patriots, Bill Belichick.

The head coach was asked by WEEI’s Greg Hill about which side dish he would put on the table for Thanksgiving if he could only choose one. Belichick answered by saying that any form of potatoes is the best dish, before saying “starch me up.”

There you have it. Mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes or baked potatoes are the way to go for the eight-time Super Bowl champion, especially if butter is thrown on them.

Belichick is one of 24 head coaches who will not be playing a game on Thanksgiving this year. Instead, the Patriots will be preparing for their opponents on Sunday, the Tennessee Titans. This is the very team that lost their second-game of the season to the lowly Houston Texans.

The Patriots have been on a roll as of late. This past Thursday, New England coasted to a 25-0 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, their fifth win in a row. The defense played a huge role in that, as they limited the Falcons offense to just 165 total yards on 52 plays and picked off the quarterback (Matt Ryan, Felieple Franks, Josh Rosen) four times.

If you want to eat like a champion for Thanksgiving, then you better starch up on some potatoes.
