Miami football: Could Joe Brady be Mario Cristobal’s OC?

Mario Cristobal’s Miami football program reportedly has “mutual interest” in former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

With Joe Brady’s brief run with the Carolina Panthers coming to an end last week, there is a chance he could resurface as Mario Cristobal’s new offensive coordinator on the Miami football staff.

Cristobal took over his alma mater’s program on Tuesday after having a successful run at Oregon. While it did not work out for Brady in Charlotte as it did for him with LSU, there is reportedly a great deal of respect between Miami and the former Panthers play-caller. Given that Brady is a South Florida native and in need of a bit of a professional reboot, who says you can’t go home?

Brady may also return “home” if Brian Kelly calls from Baton Rouge. Wouldn’t that be something?

Miami football rumors: Could Joe Brady go be Mario Cristobal’s new OC?

Ultimately, this all really depends on what Brady wants to do. He turned 32-years-old back in September and has his whole career ahead of him. While he may want to stay in the NFL, not even getting to finish his second year on the job in Charlotte is a bad look. Perhaps he could land a job on the staffs of fellow William & Mary alums Sean McDermott or Mike Tomlin over in the AFC?

As far as a college job, Brady should look at either LSU or Miami. He first rose to prominence as the passing game coordinator on Steve Ensminger’s staff in Baton Rogue. Surely, the Bayou Bengals would welcome him back, albeit on Kelly’s new staff. Though he did not play for Miami, being back in South Florida with a rich recruiting base in the surrounding area is an ideal spot.

It will be interesting to see where Brady lands, but Miami has to be on the shortlist to hire him.
