Baker Mayfield hints he could play for Browns on Monday vs. Raiders

Baker Mayfield was one of the many Browns players who tested positive for COVID leading to the Raiders game getting postponed, but the QB might play now.

To say it’s been a tumultuous week for the Cleveland Browns would be a vast understatement. As many teams throughout the league experienced COVID-19 outbreaks among both vaccinated and unvaccinated players, this club was hit harder than most heading into a Saturday matchup against the Raiders.

With more than half of their starters, including quarterback Baker Mayfield, set to miss the game, though, the decision was made to postpone the contest to Monday in the early evening/late afternoon with a 5 p.m. ET kickoff. And now, that might play into the favor of the Browns.

After already getting word that guard Wyatt Teller will be back, Mayfield took to Instagram to say that he’s not experiencing any symptoms and is hoping that he can test negative to play against the Raiders.

Baker Mayfield update: Browns QB could play Monday vs. Raiders

Per the newly updated NFL COVID-19 protocols, if Baker Mayfield can test negative by 2 p.m. ET on Monday as a vaccinated player, then the starting quarterback will be available to play against the Raiders.

Now, Mayfield has been a polarizing figure this season (and in other years too) with a bit erratic play as he’s nursing a laundry list of injuries. With that said, the more healthy options the Browns can get in their current predicament, the better.

What’s more, Cleveland has a huge opportunity against the Raiders as well. With the Ravens losing to the Packers on Sunday, a win would vault the Browns into first place in the AFC North.
