Jets HC Robert Saleh tests positive for COVID, could miss Jaguars game

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh tests positive for COVID and could miss Sunday’s home game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New York Jets could be without head coach Robert Saleh for Sunday’s home game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the first-year head coach tested positive for COVID.

Should Saleh be unable to clear COVID protocols in time for Sunday’s AFC game, tight ends coach Ron Middleton will serve as the Jets’ interim. In a game between two teams that have already been eliminated from the AFC playoff picture for weeks, nobody without any rooting interests on either side should watch this game. They have gone a combined 5-23 through 15 weeks so far.

Saleh is not going one-and-done in East Rutherford, but this season has been nothing short of a disaster for Gang Green.

Robert Saleh tests positive for COVID: Will Jets head coach be available Sunday?

For Saleh to coach on Sunday vs. Jacksonville, he will need to clear COVID-19 testing protocols. He self-reported symptoms, leading to his positive test on Wednesday morning. Saleh would need to have two negative tests in consecutive days to lead Gang Green out of the tunnel on Sunday morning. This means he cannot test positive for COVID-19 on Christmas morning or he’ll be out.

As far as what the Jets have in front of them, it is all about positioning themselves for next season. They are among the worst teams in the AFC and should be picking inside of the top five in next spring’s 2022 NFL Draft. New York will not take a quarterback after using last year’s No. 2 overall pick on Zach Wilson out of BYU. Look for the Jets to target someone who plays in the trenches.

The loser of Sunday’s game could wind up being the worst team from the AFC this season.
