Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers trade proposal: NFL insider reveals wild deal sending No. 12, Davante Adams to Broncos

NFL insider Peter King revealed a blockbuster trade proposal that would send Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and WR Davante Adams to the Broncos.

If Rodgers were traded to the Broncos, it would make sense for Adams to follow when he’s a free agent, hence the Packers wanting to cash in on the battery while they have the chance. For now, though, it would appear No. 12 is intent on staying in Green Bay, especially assuming the Packers go on a playoff run in early 2022.

Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is a head coaching candidate in the next cycle. If the Broncos hire Hackett, they could use his connection to Rodgers and Adams as a way to sway them to Denver.

Here’s the trade scenario, as outlined by Peter King.

Packers Get

2022 First-round pick

Jerry Jeudy

2023 First-round pick

Broncos Get

QB, Aaron Rodgers

WR, Davante Adams

Now, obviously, the Packers could request a third pick considering they’re sending both Rodgers and Adams to Denver. King, per the above tweet, simply stated the Broncos’ draft pick compensation as ‘multiple’ firsts.

Aaron Rodgers trade: Could Broncos pull this off?

Were Jeudy not involved in said trade, odds are the Broncos would have to trade at least three future first-round picks. Even this deal as currently constructed might not be enough, given Rodgers is in position to win another MVP award and Adams is one of the best wide receivers in all of football.

Yet, if the Packers don’t make a trade with the Broncos — and this is with the knowledge that both Rodgers and Adams intend to leave, we’re assuming — then they risk losing both for absolutely nothing.

The Broncos can use that to their advantage. For the Packers, receiving a near top-10 pick (plus another in 2023 at the very least) and a young receiver on the rise to pair with Jordan Love is a significant trade package.

Rodgers is more likely to stay than to leave, especially after the Packers front office listened to him and surrounded him with optimal weapons. But if he’s ignored from a play-calling perspective in another early playoff exit, that could all change.

Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.
