LSU football snipes new defensive coordinator off Kansas City Chiefs staff

Brian Kelly is working to carefully build his LSU football coaching staff and is tabbing Kansas City Chiefs assistant Matt House as the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator.

When building a coaching staff, it never hurts to hire someone who is already working for a successful and thriving team. So, it makes sense that someone like Brian Kelly, the new head coach of the LSU Tigers, might be interested in building his LSU football coaching staff with someone from one of the best teams in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most successful franchises in the NFL in recent seasons and they’ve got quite a few brilliant coaches on their staff. Hiring someone off of that staff would be a great move.

Kelly believes Matt House, the linebackers coach for Kansas City, is the right guy to be his defensive coordinator in Baton Rouge.

This sort of hire has the potential to be a really good one for the Tigers. House is an experienced coach and has been a defensive coordinator at the college level before. From 2013-2014, House served in that role for the Pittsburgh Panthers. He has also been the defensive coordinator for the FIU Panthers and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Now a member of Andy Reid’s staff in Kansas City, House has gained some valuable experience with a well-run NFL franchise. The move back to college coaching will be an interesting one, but House should be able to succeed.
