Vikings playoff hopes are dead with Adam Thielen injury update

The Minnesota Vikings will be without Adam Thielen for the rest of the season after he underwent ankle surgery.

The battle for the postseason has just made even more difficult for the Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately for the team, star wideout Adam Thielen has been dealing with an ankle injury down the stretch.

Well, things have been taken to a new level, as The Athletic’s Chad Graff is reporting that Thielen underwent surgery this week and his 2021 season is officially done. Obviously, this is a major blow for Minnesota as a whole.

Adam Thielen undergoing ankle surgery is terrible news for the Vikings

This is a bummer for the Vikings. Thielen previously missed two games with his bum ankle, but then fought through the pain to get back on the field to take on the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend.

In that game, though, Thielen re-injured that ankle and he was clearly in a ton of discomfort. Now, he’s had to go under the knife because things had gotten so bad for him in this case.

With the Vikings at 7-8 on the year, their playoff hopes are on the respirator. They need to win the final two games of the season and also get some help to try and grab one of the NFC Wild Card spots. Things are going to be quite tough for them in Week 17, as Minnesota heads to Lambeau Field to try and take down Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

With Theilen not able to suit up for this one, Cousins will now have to step his game up even more to try and lead his team to an upset win. Without Mr. Reliable out there for him in Thielen, Vikes fans sure aren’t feeling overly confident.
