Paul Finebaum blasts ‘punk’ Baker Mayfield: ‘Hasn’t changed since college’

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum ripped Baker Mayfield to shreds on Cleveland radio Friday.

Paul Finebaum has had just about enough of Baker Mayfield’s shenanigans.

The ESPN college football analyst appeared on ESPN Cleveland Friday and then proceeded to rip the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback to shreds.

“I got into it with him in college,” said Finebaum. “He came after me on Twitter. And I thought he was a punk then and nothing has changed. He is a poor man’s Johnny Manziel. I think Cleveland ought to get rid of him. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I think the Browns are wasting their time with this guy.”

Calling Mayfield “a poor man’s Johnny Manziel” is a bit much, but Mayfield does find himself on the wrong side of the media more times than not. Mayfield has one more year left on his Browns deal. Cleveland needs to figure out one way or another if the former No. 1 overall pick out of Oklahoma is an asset worth building with. Keep in mind Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski did not draft him.

Finebaum may be more of a college guy, but he is right in that Mayfield has been a lightning rod of sorts since his days of playing for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma.

Paul Finebaum calls out Browns QB Baker Mayfield on ESPN Cleveland on Friday

Who knew putting a sharp-tongued quarterback into a dysfunctional organization was going to be a powder keg? While Cleveland has been markedly better with Mayfield on their roster than it had been in the years prior, this organization has done very well in recent drafts and free agency periods. Simply put, the Browns had the talent to make the playoffs this year, but totally blew it.

So with that in mind, much of the blame falls on Mayfield’s shoulders. While he dealt with injuries throughout the season, Cleveland was nothing short of a disappointment this year. This was a team that was coming off its first playoff win since Bill Belichick was their head coach. Now the Browns find themselves in the basement of the AFC North division standings yet again this year.

The Browns may need to hit the reset button before completely wasting this talented roster.
