The Philadelphia Eagles could improve their seeding with a win (and help) against the Cowboys on Saturday but, instead, Jalen Hurts and more are resting.
With their win over Washington and then the Vikings losing in primetime, the Philadelphia Eagles locked up a playoff berth. They weren’t in range to have a chance to win the NFC East but they’ll be dancing in the postseason.
The big question heading into the Week 18 season finale against the rival Cowboys, though, was what seed Philadelphia would be sitting at for the playoffs as they had the potential to win and move around. Apparently, that’s not something the team is particularly worried about.
Rumblings that the Eagles could rest numerous starters turned out to be true as quarterback Jalen Hurts headlined a long list of inactives for Philadelphia against the Cowboys — not including a substantial number of players out due to COVID-19.
Eagles: Gardner Minshew starting with Jalen Hurts inactive
In addition to Hurts, the Eagles will be without Darius Slay, Miles Sanders, Lane Johnson, Steven Nelson, Javon Hargrave and several others due to rest for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Boston Scott, Dallas Goedert and Fletcher Cox headline those out with COVID.
With Hurts out, though, that will give Eagles and NFL fans another look at Gardner Minshew as the starter. He filled in for a game earlier this season and helped keep Philadelphia in a great position to make the playoffs with a victory.
Now, surrounded by a number of backups and with the potential still to move up in the NFC playoff seeding, we’ll see if Minshew Magic lives again.
