Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave Patrick Mahomes some epic advice with 13-seconds remaining in the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
The Kansas City Chiefs may have won the greatest playoff game in recent NFL history, and it was all thanks to Patrick Mahomes magic. With the Buffalo Bills taking a late 36-33 lead with just 13 seconds remaining, the Chiefs threw two huge passes to set up Harrison Butker’s 49-yard field goal to send the game to overtime. After winning the coin toss, the Chiefs marched down the field and ended the game on a touchdown pass from Mahomes to tight end Travis Kelce to win 42-36.
Following the game, head coach Andy Reid was asked if he gave any advice to his quarterback on the final drive of regulation. That is when Reid revealed he told Mahomes, “when it’s grim, be the grim reaper.”

Mahomes was the grim reaper, as they killed the Bills’ chances of getting revenge for their AFC Championship Game loss from last year.
Buffalo seemingly had the game won, as quarterback Josh Allen connected with Gabriel Davis in the end zone for the fourth time. But leaving 13 seconds on the clock and kicking a touchback to set the Chiefs up at their own 25-yard line turned out to be a devastating scenario for the Bills. Mahomes connected with wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Kelce on 19- and 25-yard passes, respectively to set up Butker’s successful, game-tying kick.
Mahomes completed 33-of-44 pass attempts for 378 yards and three touchdowns, while running the ball seven times for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Now, the Chiefs have advanced to the AFC Championship Game for the fourth-consecutive season. Their opponents will be the Cincinnati Bengals, who pulled out a 19-16 victory over a Tennessee Titans team that sacked quarterback Joe Burrow nine times. These two teams did meet back in Week 17, where the Bengals won 34-31 behind a 266-yard, three-touchdown performance by rookie wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
Kansas City looks to make it to the Super Bowl for the third straight year. That can become a reality if they beat the Bengals to set up a meeting against either the Los Angeles Rams or San Francisco 49ers.
