Did Lane Kiffin just throw his name in the mix for the Saints job?

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has New Orleans Saints fans going wild with his latest activity on social media.

It’s been a wild week for the New Orleans Saints. As you’ve all surely seen by now, Sean Payton has decided to step away from the game, announcing he won’t be back as the team’s head coach in 2022. Now, the hunt is on for the Saints to find a replacement.

Could the next man in line be Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin? Kiffin has been active on his Twitter account, posting tweets that sure make it seem like he’s got Louisiana on his mind.

Lane Kiffin is trolling and isn’t going to succeed Sean Payton with the Saints

As you might have been able to guess, Saints fans are going nuts in the replies to the tweet above. On top of that one, Kiffin also posted a photo of a plane being New Orleans-bound. Surely this means he wants an interview, right? Wrong.

This is just Kiffin being Kiffin, as he’s been known to troll fanbases like this whenever a big-time job opens up. While the thought of him bolting SEC country for the NFC South sounds fun, that’s just not going to happen. Kiffin is thrilled to be with Ole Miss and the program has quite the future.

Meanwhile, for the Saints, things sure are complicated right now. The team is way over the salary cap, the Michael Thomas trade rumors have started once again and now the front office needs to go find a new head coach.

Payton will forever be loved by the fanbase, as he helped bring home a Super Bowl title in 2009. Someone will have massive shoes to fill, but it won’t be Kiffin in doing so.
