Dolphins zeroing in on head coaching favorite with Jaylen Waddle in mind

If the Miami Dolphins end up hiring San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to be their next head coach, look for Jaylen Waddle to be next year’s breakout star.

Nobody on the Miami Dolphins roster could benefit more with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel taking over as head coach than wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

With Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll leaving Orchard Park to take over the New York Giants mess, McDaniel has been among the hottest names tied to the Dolphins opening. He and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore may have been finalists, but owner Stephen Ross may not be able to help himself if Jim Harbaugh wants to leave Michigan behind.

McDaniel would surely put the talented former Alabama wide receiver in space, but will the 49ers’ run-game guru get his opportunity in Miami?

Mike McDaniel could get the most out of Jaylen Waddle as next Dolphins HC

Hiring McDaniel to be the Dolphins’ next head coach would be a bold move. This was only his first season as an offensive coordinator before. While the 49ers came up one win shy of getting to the Super Bowl, going from a first-time coordinator to a first-time head coach is a big step up. Just look at how much Brandon Staley and his defense struggled down the stretch this past season.

What should have Dolphins fans excited about potentially getting McDaniel as their next head coach is his combination of innovativeness and an identity. The Dolphins will be known for running the football and doing so in a tough, yet creative manner. It is a great combination to help them contend in the AFC East that has been owned by the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.

If Ross wants to go with coaching upside, then he might get McDaniel to come to South Florida.
