Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson responds to offseason rumors about his potential move to the Washington Commanders.
When Russell Wilson changed his Twitter profile picture, it made news—after all, news can be broken by changing a profile picture, or removing team photos altogether.
Wilson, who is a Virginia native, changed his photo to one of him and his father when Russell played for the Collegiate School in Richmond.
Finally, Wilson responded to the rumors on The Today Show, reaffirming his love for Seattle and his intention to stay there.
“I’m from Richmond, I know what you mean, I got people hitting me up every day, all my friends and all that from the East Coast but Seattle’s the place I’m at right now and I love it,” Wilson said.

While Wilson seemed to dispel rumors of a move from one Washington to another, all he did was confirm that he is currently content in Seattle. The Today Show characterized Wilson’s answer as one “spoken like a true diplomat” and it’s true: Wilson avoided answering specifically on the state of his contract or if there was any validity to recent trade rumors.
Still, saying he’s happy in Seattle indicates that he plans on staying there for the time being, meaning trade rumors could be a negotiation tool for Wilson’s team. But the trade rumors have been floating around since last offseason when a bombshell report by The Athletic indicated Wilson was frustrated with the franchise.
A change at offensive coordinator and an unexpected thumb injury amounted for the worst season of Wilson’s career with the Seahawks. After last season, and considering Brady’s departure and Rodgers’ assumed one, it’s logical to think the 33-year-old quarterback would move to a better situation instead of waiting for the Seahawks to rebuild.
But for now, the diplomatic Wilson maintains a solid relationship with Seattle.
