NFL Free Agency, Pittsburgh Steelers

Former first round bust linked to Steelers as Ben Roethlisberger successor

Steelers fans will lose their minds when they see the team could be interested in Mitchell Trubisky to be the next starting quarterback.

Filling the massive shoes of Ben Roethlisberger is going to be no easy task for the next starter at Heinz Field. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin can surely do better than this?

According to Ian Rapoport, the Steelers’ search for Big Ben’s replacements is going far and wide, with the list including Mitchell Trubisky. That’s most definitely not the name Steelers fans were hoping to hear about.

While Rapoport did mention a potential trade for Jimmy Garoppolo, countless hearts must have dropped the second he mentioned Trubisky. The former first-round pick will go down as one of the biggest busts in history.

The Chicago Bears used the No. 2 overall pick on Trubisky in 2017 with the hopes that he’d be the signal-caller of the future and power the team to a Super Bowl win. Instead, Trubisky never lived up to the hype and he made his way to the Bills last season to be Josh Allen’s backup.

Chicago used its first-round pick last year on Justin Fields. Now, Trubisky is hopeful that he can get another chance to be a starter in this league. Pittsburgh could turn out to be the team to give him that shot.

If Pittsburgh does go down this road, there’s going to be a lot of angry people in town. The Steelers supporters are eyeing Kenny Pickett to be taken in the first round this year, though the team would have to trade up to make that happen. Someone like Trubisky has been nowhere on fans’ radar.
