Browns are in on Deshaun Watson, seek upgrade from Baker Mayfield

It seems like the Cleveland Browns are interested in finding an upgrade at quarterback and are potentially looking at Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

While some NFL franchises may be distancing themselves from the possibility of trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, others are apparently showing signs that they are indeed interested in bringing him in.

The Cleveland Browns fit into the latter category, according to reports.

As FanSided’s own Matt Verderame shares on Twitter, the Browns are apparently interested in finding an upgrade at quarterback.

While Baker Mayfield is still on his rookie contract, that contract will be coming to an end at the end of next season and the Browns apparently want someone a little better than Mayfield as they move forward.

Landing Watson might be a tricky task that requires a good bit of negotiating, but the Browns are apparently interested in Watson and seeing what he could bring to the table.

Watson hasn’t played in a while due to some legal issues and allegations that he was navigating off the field. He last played for the Texans in 2020. During his four seasons in Houston, Watson played in 54 games and threw for 14,539 yards and 104 touchdowns against 36 interceptions while completing 67.8 percent of his passes.

During Mayfield’s four seasons in Cleveland, he managed to play in 60 games. In that timeframe, Mayfield threw for 14,125 yards and 92 touchdowns against 56 interceptions while completing 61.6 percent of his passes.
