After inking wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a contract, the Chiefs have gone out and signed another high-upside low-risk target for Patrick Mahomes.
The busy offseason is continuing for the Kansas City Chiefs, with general manager Brett Veach bringing in a player you might have forgotten about. Remember former first-round pick Corey Coleman?
He was selected by the Browns in 2016 and never lived up to the hype. He hasn’t appeared in a game since 2018, but according to Ian Rapoport, Veach is ready to see if he can go out and make plays for signal-caller Patrick Mahomes.
Corey Coleman is getting another shot with the Kansas City Chiefs
Coleman’s career really hasn’t gone as planned. He had monster expectations once he joined Cleveland back in 2016, but he only appeared in 19 games with the team before being traded to the Buffalo Bills.
In eight games with the Bills in 2018, Coleman posted just five receptions for 71 yards. He then had brief stints with the Patriots and Giants after that, but never saw the field during the regular season. He sat out all of last year as well.
Because he hasn’t made any plays in so long, it’s understandable for NFL fans to not remember about his potential coming out of college. Veach and head coach Andy Reid are ready to see what Coleman still has left in the tank.
The news of the Coleman signing comes shortly after the team also brought in former Pittsburgh Steelers fan favorite Juju Smith-Schuster. Coleman is a low-risk, high-reward signing for Kansas City. If things don’t work out, the team could simply part ways with him before the campaign arrives. If Coleman impresses and earns a spot on the 53-man roster, then it could prove to be a genius move by Veach.
