Green Bay Packers, NFL Free Agency

Aaron Rodgers should be fuming after Packers lose another wideout

Aaron Rodgers cannot be happy that former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is signing a multi-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in his free agency.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers loses another wide receiver to an AFC West franchise, this time with Marquez Valdes-Scantling getting the bag from the Kansas City Chiefs.

While part of him has to be happy Valdes-Scantling made big-time money for the first time in his NFL career, another part of him probably wishes the Packers’ brass took care of the talented wide receiver. Valdes-Scantling joins former Packers wideout Davante Adams as new additions to the AFC West. Adams reunited with his former college teammate Derek Carr on the Las Vegas Raiders.

Factor in previously released Packers pass-rusher Za’Darius Smith signing with the division rival Minnesota Vikings and there are no guarantees the NFC North runs through Lambeau Field next season.

Aaron Rodgers must be hot that Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with Chiefs

With Rodgers deciding to return to the Packers for yet another season, one would have thought Green Bay would be at the front of the line when it came to this year’s NFC contenders. Though they can still very much be that, who is Rodgers going to throw the football to now? He can hand it off to Aaron Jones no problem, but his receiving corps has taken one crushing blow after another.

The Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions are rebuilding, but the Vikings loom large in the division. The good news for the Packers is they play in clearly the weaker of the two conferences. They have plenty of time to iron things out with a new receiving corps for Rodgers to rifle the pigskin to. Of course, the built-up rapport he had with Valdes-Scantling and Adams are significant losses.

Ultimately, Rodgers and company must adjust accordingly. One can only imagine how rough of a shape the team would be in if Rodgers decided to retire or wanted to be traded. The good news is he will have back his trusted tight end Robert Tonyan. He signed a one-year deal to stay with Green Bay, as he works his way back from a season-ending injury. At least Rodgers has Tonyan.

Expect for the Packers receiving corps to be vastly different than the ones from previous seasons.
