DK Metcalf shuts door on Chiefs trade in hilarious fashion

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf wanted nothing to do with Chiefs fans in his mentions after the Tyreek Hill trade.

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers have inquired about Metcalf, as well as teammate Tyler Lockett, after trading their star wide receivers. While Metcalf would require an extension at some point — as he’s only signed through the 2022 season — odds are he won’t be as expensive as Tyreek Hill or Davante Adams if only due to his age.

Metcalf is only 24 years old, but for now he’s perfectly happy in Seattle even with the Russell Wilson trade. Drew Lock is locked in as the starting quarterback without Wilson in tow.

When approached by Chiefs fans about a potential trade, Metcalf shut down the talk very quickly.

And that’s that? Not so fast.

NFL rumors: DK Metcalf remains in play for the Chiefs

Seattle is the only franchise Metcalf has ever known, so his loyalty makes sense in this case. However, John Schneider is likely to continue to receive calls on his young wideouts.

Metcalf will have a high price tag attached to his name, but every player in tradable, even the great Patrick Mahomes. If the Chiefs were willing to flip much of the draft capital and more to Seattle for Metcalf’s services, and the right to replace Hill with a younger, more physical wide receiver, then so be it. It sure would make Mahomes happy.

The door is closed from Metcalf’s point of view, but that’s because Seahawks management is telling him all the right things. That could change in a week or even two, when the NFL Draft nears and Seattle realizes their quickest path to a rebuild is through rookie contracts.

Metcalf’s humor is appreciated in this case — it’s been a rough 24 hours for Chiefs fans — but the chances of him landing in Kansas City or elsewhere by the time the offseason is over remain close to 50/50.
