Von Miller confirmed on Instagram that he was this close to signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Fate would have it, Von Miller was about to be bout them Cowboys — until he signed with the Buffalo Bills in his NFL free agency.

Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and Dallas Cowboys‘ offseason moves. While Miller look washed in the latter part of his Denver Broncos tenure, he was reinvigorated by playing for the Los Angeles Rams and winning a second Super Bowl. Even if Miller is from the metroplex and played at Texas A&M, he got paid the big bucks to join rank with the Bills in the Land of Sauce.

Here he is admitting to Micah Parsons that they were this close to becoming Dallas teammates.

Von Miller shares that he almost signed with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency

Even if there is no state income tax in Texas, it was not like the Cowboys were in a position to compete with the cold, hard cash the Bills doled out to Miller in his free agency. He signed a gargantuan six-year deal worth $120 million. Miller will be under contract with the Bills through the 2027 NFL season and will not be hitting unrestricted free agency again until he is 39 years old.

Blessed with two Super Bowl rings already on his Pro Football Hall of Fame lock resume, Miller will look to close out his illustrious career in Western New York. The expectation is he will help provide pressure out on the edge, as well as show the up-and-coming Bills what it will take to win the AFC. To date, Buffalo is 0-for-4 in Super Bowls, having not played in one since the Jim Kelly era.

While few NFL franchises have had longer Super Bowls drought than the Cowboys, the Bills are one of them. In fact, the last time the Bills won the AFC, they lost to The Triplets for the second time in a row. Even if it could have been Miller Time in Dallas for the foreseeable future, he has joined Bills Mafia, hoping to reach the promised land, one flaming folding table in a parking lot at a time.

So if Buffalo does make it back to the Super Bowl, may their opponent be none other than Dallas.
