Cowboys have interest in four-time Pro Bowl linebacker

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly have interest in linebacker Anthony Barr, but only if the price is right.

The Dallas Cowboys were no strangers to the linebacker market this offseason. In fact, they were both linked to Von Miller and Bobby Wagner this offseason, but they signed with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, respectively. Following the NFL Draft, they are now linked to another linebacker.

According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys are interested in free agent and former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr if the price is right.

Barr had been with the Vikings for the entirety of his career after they selected him with the ninth-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Of course, there was that time where he was about to leave for the New York Jets in free agency, but he ultimately decided to re-sign with the Vikings.

Despite that, Barr brings 98 games of starter’s experience. However, his past two campaigns were riddled by injuries. In 2020, he played just two games due to a torn pectoral muscle. Last year, Barr dealt with a knee injury, but played 11 games.

In his eight seasons with the Vikings, Barr recorded 495 total tackles (39 for loss), 44 quarterback hits, 31 defended passes, 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and five interceptions. It’s important to note that three of those interceptions arrived last season.

It will remain to be seen if Dallas will actually sign Barr this offseason. There are four months left until the team’s 2022 season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
