Deebo Samuel attends Warriors game, making 49ers OTAs unlikely

By attending Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night, Deebo Samuel is not expected to take part in the first day of San Francisco 49ers OTAs.

There is no chance Deebo Samuel will participate in the first day of San Francisco 49ers organized team activities on Monday.

This is because the talented wide receiver was in attendance of Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. Had this game been in the Bay Area, no big deal, but this one was in Texas. Unless Deebo hopped on a jet westward bound overnight, there is no way he will be in Santa Clara in time on Monday.

Samuel not being present for the first day of 49ers OTAs comes as a surprise to absolutely no one.

Given the contract dispute Samuel has with the 49ers’ front office, why would anyone think he would show up to the first day of OTA’s this spring? Hold-ins may be more common in the NFL because of the latest collective bargaining agreement, but offseasons have long been about holdouts. The only problem with this is Trey Lance will not be getting reps with his No. 1 receiver.

While the 49ers were one win away from getting back to the Super Bowl, much of this team will be different from last year’s squad. The two biggest changes just so happen to be on the offensive side of the ball. Not only is Lance expected to take over the reins of the offense from Jimmy Garoppolo, but former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel now leads the Miami Dolphins.

The good news is Samuel seems to be supporting the hometown hoops team on the Warriors’ quest for another trip to the NBA Finals. Golden State has taken a commanding 3-0 series lead over Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. Look for this series to either be a sweep or a gentlemen’s sweep with Golden State winning the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2019.

The greatest way to not be in Santa Clara on Monday morning is to be in Dallas on Sunday night.
