Packers fans already putting Romeo Doubs in Canton after preseason TD

Romeo Doubs has been a training camp darling for the Green Bay Packers, so his touchdown in the preseason opener had fans going berserk.

Throughout training camp, one name that keeps getting brought up from the Green Bay Packers is rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs. He’s been making plays that beat writers haven’t been able to ignore, he’s drawn praise from Aaron Rodgers, and he looks like he could be an impact player right away for a wide receiver corps that needs it.

But in the world of training camp hype, the big key is that the coaching staff needs to see a player like Doubs make the same type of plays when the lights are a bit brighter in an actual game. And the rookie did just that.

In Green Bay’s preseason opener against the 49ers — a thorn in the side for the Packers in recent years — Doubs got loose down the sidelines in the first quarter and hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love on a gorgeous play…and it came on a fourth-and-3 play call to boot!

Packers: Romeo Doubs touchdown in preseason sends fans into a frenzy

With all of the hype already surrounding the rookie out of Nevada, the reactions to the touchdown were far from tame as fans were ready for Doubs to start getting fitted for his gold jacket to get inducted into Canton.

Doubs wasn’t just a one-play wonder either as he had quite the first half for the Packers.

He was targeted eight times (not all of them quality throws, it should be noted) and hauled in three receptions for 45 yards and the score.

Green Bay needs wide receivers to step up after the Davante Adams trade and people have been saying throughout camp to this point that Doubs might be a dark horse to do just that. If one half of preseason action is any indication, that might actually be the case.
