The reasoning for the suspension stems from him being arrested for misdemeanor criminal property damage this past January, where he pleaded not guilty. Gay allegedly caused damage at the mother of his son’s home amounting to less than $1,000 following an argument.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Gay agreed to pre-trial diversion program to conclude the case this past June. Gay agreed to undergo mental health counseling, submit drug and alcohol testing, pay fines, fees, and restitution, and stay out of trouble for the next 12 months, per TMZ Sports.

With this suspension, Gay is set to miss Kansas City’s next four games against the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Buffalo Bills. He will be able to return for Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers.

According to NFL rules, via ESPN’s Adam Teicher, Gay is prohibited from entering the team’s practice facility or contact team officials for the next two weeks.

Gay started in both of Kansas City’s games this season, where he tallied 16 total tackles, two tackles for loss, two defended passes, and one quarterback hit.
