Richard Sherman sounds off on Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush argument

Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman says that there is no quarterback controversy between Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush, but says that Rush has earned himself some money.

The Dallas Cowboys 2022 season seemingly got off to the worst possible start, after starting quarterback Dak Prescott fractured his right thumb in Week 1, and that he would be sideliend indefinitely. Instead, the Cowboys have won their next two games behind the play of backup quarterback Cooper Rush. Not only that, but Rush is undefeated as a starter.

Owner Jerry Jones has said in the lead-up to their Week 3 game against the New York Giants, that he would welcome a quarterback controversy.

On “The Richard Sherman Podcast,” the former NFL cornerback said that there is no quarterback controversy between Prescott and Rush. However, he says that Rush had earned himself some money.

Richards Sherman says there is no quarterback controversy for Cowboys

“And I’ll tell you this, there isn’t a quarterback controversy, because Dak makes too much money. There’s never going to be a QB controversy when the quarterback makes that much money,” said Sherman. “But Cooper Rush is making himself some money right now, and that’s cool to see.”

Prior to last season, Prescott signed a lucrative contract, worth $160 million over four years. That was after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in 2020. In 2021, Prescott completed 68.8-percent of his passes for 4,449 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Rush had started one game in the 2021 season, and he led the team to a 20-16 win over the Minnesota Vikings, throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns. One year later, he helped lead the Cowboys to wins in his next two starts.

In Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rush completed 19-of-31 pass attempts for 235 yards and one touchdown in the 20-17 win. Then on Monday Night Football in Week 3, Rush threw for 215 yards and one touchdown while completing 21-of-31 pass attempts.

Rush is still in line to get another start in Week 4 against the Washington Commanders, as Prescott is eyeing a Week 5 return against the Los Angeles Rams.
