The Cleveland Browns sit at 2-5 in the AFC North and appear headed towards a sell-off at this year’s trade deadline. Let’s break down some trade chips.
The 2022 NFL Trade Deadline is just days away. All trades must be completed by 4 PM ET on Tuesday, November 4th.
A few deals have gone down over the course of the past week, highlighted by Christian McCaffrey, Robbie Anderson and James Robinson finding themselves on the move.
There is perhaps no team with more trade chips on its roster than the Cleveland Browns, who have reportedly already begun receiving calls on two of its players, DB Greedy Williams and RB Kareem Hunt.
Browns: Kareem Hunt and 3 other players that should be moved before the deadline
Kareem Hunt, in the midst of his fourth season as a member of the Browns, has yet to start a game this season behind incumbent starter Nick Chubb. In August of this year, Hunt requested a trade from Cleveland but was rejected at the time.
Now, leading up to the deadline, the club is reportedly listening to offers on him and appear likely to move on from the 27-year-old that is in the last year of a two-year contract in Cleveland. He has 66 rushes to his name this year, averaging 4.0 yards per carry and scoring a total of three touchdowns.
Cornerback Greedy Williams also finds himself on an expiring contract and being labeled as an attractive trade chip. His brief NFL career has been riddled with injuries, including one that held him out of action until Week 6 of the current campaign.
Williams, 24, is a backup as of now behind Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II, so a deal in the coming days could be likely as the Browns look to turn an expiring contract into value elsewhere.
Further down the roster, the Browns have two other players on expiring contracts that could be on the move as well in OT Jack Conklin and SS Ronnie Harrison. Both of them are also to be considered when talking about Browns players on the way out.
Conklin, 28, has failed to return to his All-Pro self that we saw in 2020. Over the course of the past two seasons, he has appeared in just 12 games.
Harrison, 25, has done little to improve a Browns defense that struggles to intercept the ball. The club has just two picks through its first six games, and Harrison does not have one of them. Flipping somebody of his caliber could open up a spot on the roster to make room for someone who has a knack for picking the ball off.
