The 2022 NFL trade deadline has come and gone, being one of the most active in recent memory. Here are three winners and three losers of the deadline.

The 2022 NFL trade deadline was not like in years past. It was actually…active for once. The majority of the big names speculated to be on the move were actually sent to new teams in exchange for some huge returns.

On Tuesday, Nov. 1, there were 10 trades made, some of which were massive and carried huge playoff implications. But we can not forget the deals that were made in the lead up to the big day, as they set the tone for what became an active trade deadline.

Let’s take a look at teams who won and teams who lost at the NFL trade deadline.

NFL Trade Deadline: Winners and losers from blockbuster 2022 deadline

Winners: Miami Dolphins

On Tuesday, the big name that was speculated to be on the move was Denver Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb. The former 2018 first-round pick was set to become a free agent at year’s end, and the Broncos decided that the best course of action was to get a return for him, considering that their pass rush is in good shape even without him on the roster.

The Miami Dolphins, who made a huge trade for Tyreek Hill prior to the regular season, decided to make another splash move, this time on the defensive side of the ball. According to multiple reports, the Dolphins acquired Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Broncos in exchange for running back Chase Edmonds, a 2023 first-round pick from their trade with the San Francisco 49ers, and 2024 fourth-round pick.

Not only did they acquire Chubb for the latter portion of the season, but ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the two sides were expected to work out a long-term contract.

The Dolphins were not done there, as they brought in a player head coach Mike McDaniel is familiar with from his time with the 49ers. They acquired running back Jeff Wilson, who essentially lost the starting job after the Christian McCaffrey trade, in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick.

Miami isn’t only all-in on a playoff run this season, but also a potential contender for the foreseeable future.

Losers: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the big disappointments of the 2022 season. They are currently 3-5 on the year and are behind the Atlanta Falcons for first place in the NFC South.

Quarterback Tom Brady looks to have regressed mightily this season. But, it can not be overlooked that the running game is virtually non-existent, and the offensive line is extremely banged up. One would think that the Buccaneers, who were close to making the comeback of all comebacks against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round last year, would make some moves to improve.

They did not.

So, the Buccaneers will be banking on the team to work out of their slump in their next nine games. Sure, the NFC is wide open, but the Buccaneers are making a huge bet that their squad entering the regular season can get the job done.
