The likelihood of a Bills-Vikings Super Bowl LVII matchup, according to experts

After the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, the odds of the two making Super Bowl LVII have increased.

After watching the unexpected overtime thriller between the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings, NFL fans and analysts quickly dubbed the Week 10 game as the “Game of The Year.

The back and forth between the two, especially with Minnesota down by 14 at one point, makes it difficult to imagine a better matchup for the remainder of the NFL season. In fact, the game may have just unseated the iconic Chiefs-Rams Week 11 game in 2018, which actually won an ESPY that year for Best Game.

While the Chiefs and Rams almost saw a Super Bowl rematch that year, the slate ended up being the Rams versus the Patriots after New England defeated Kansas City in the AFC Championship game. It’s not surprising that the Game of The Year players almost saw a Super Bowl rematch, which begs the question: Could it finally happen in 2023?

The outcome of the Bills-Vikings game did shift Super Bowl betting odds, and while the two aren’t predicted to face one another in the big game yet, it’s becoming more likely every week.

What are the odds of a Bills-Vikings matchup in Super Bowl LVII?

According to DraftKings, the Buffalo Bills remain the favorite to make Super Bowl LVII, although their odds have shifted over the season. In Week 1, the Bills saw +550 odds that bumped up to +330 by Week 10. After their Week 10 loss to the Vikings, those odds have sunk back to +400. Still, the Bills are the No. 1 team expected to make the Super Bowl, slightly ahead of the Chiefs at +500 odds, even though the Bills currently rank third in the AFC East.

If the Bills do represent the AFC, that brings back one Game of The Year player, but the gauntlet for Minnesota is a bit more complicated. After the formerly undefeated Eagles lost to the Commanders, both the Eagles and Vikings are tied for the NFL’s best record: 8-1. Despite this, the Vikings are still considered underdogs for the Super Bowl slot. The Eagles, 49ers and Cowboys all enjoy higher odds than the Vikings to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. The Eagles are +500, while the 49ers and Cowboys are tied at +1000. The Vikings are below at +1400 odds, but that doesn’t reflect how much Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson have countered expectations in the 2022 season.

Of the top seven NFL teams with the highest odds of appearing in the Super Bowl, the Vikings entered Week 1 with the lowest odds at +3500, a far cry from the Bills’ +550 odds that first week. In Week 10, the Vikings had jumped to +1600, and entering Week 11, they’re now at +1400.

Despite having a better record than the 49ers and Cowboys, the Vikings are still fourth among NFC teams expected to represent the conference in Super Bowl LVII.

FanDuel offers different odds, with the Bills facing +380 odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Vikings face +1100 odds. The Eagles and 49ers rank ahead of the Vikings with FanDuel’s predictions as well.

The Vikings are still underrated, but if the past ten weeks have demonstrated anything, it’s that Minnesota thrives against low expectations. It turns out that the Game of The Year could be the Super Bowl matchup of a lifetime — especially since both teams would be looking for their first-ever Lombardi.
