Russell Wilson teammate puts rumors slamming Russ to bed

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has been rumored to be using old Seahawks audibles, but Dalton Risner quickly put a stop to those rumors.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is thought to be confusing his team by using his old Seattle Seahawk checks at the line, but according to teammate Dalton Risner, he’s not.

In response to the rumors, Risner told Ryan Edwards of KOA Colorado, “That’s BS. There hasn’t been a single time he’s made a check at the line that we didn’t know what it was.”

The Broncos aren’t doing well this season with a record of 3-6, so it’s understandable why such wild rumors might spawn and circulate. It’s frustrating for fans to watch their team be so unsuccessful, especially when they’ve struggled to replace Peyton Manning since his retirement in 2015.

Wilson isn’t having a great season in Denver so far, but there could be many things to blame for that aside from reverting to methods he used with the Seahawks. He’s playing with a new team for the first time in his career, and he’s unfortunately on track to producing his own career lows. However, he was a powerhouse with the Seahawks (but an investigation of his decline suggests even his final year in Seattle was a sign of what was to come).

Given his successful track record, he may just not know how to play with a brand-new team.

Russell Wilson’s issues may be as simple as needing adjustment time

Wilson began his NFL career in 2012 with the Seahawks. He immediately had a great impact, ending the 2012 season with a completion percentage of 64.1 over 3,118 passing yards, an average of 7.9 yards per pass and 26 touchdowns.

He’s kept his numbers up consistently with Seattle, producing a career completion percentage of 64.6 over 39,039 passing yards, an average of 7.8 yards per pass and 299 touchdowns. This season, he’s fallen far under his usual performance with a completion percentage of 57.4 over 1,980 yards, an average of 7.3 yards per pass and just seven touchdowns over eight games.

Given that this is his first time with a new team, he can be given benefit of the doubt for not adjusting easily. After all, he’s played with the same team and coach up until this point. Though benefit of the doubt can only last so long, it may just be that he doesn’t know how to play with the new team.

Despite what the reason may be for his unfavorable performance, it’s at least confirmed that it’s not due to old audibles from the Seahawks, knocking one potential reason off the list.
