Why Antonio Brown has yet to be arrested despite warrant [Updated]

With a slew of misinformation being spread about Antonio Brown’s latest legal trouble, here’s everything we actually know about the unfolding situation.

Nothing is ever simple when it comes to Antonio Brown.

The former Buccaneers, Raiders and Steelers wide receiver who was on the way to legendary status in the NFL before destroying his reputation in increasingly bizarre and concerning fashion, is now facing a charge for domestic violence in Tampa Bay.

On Thursday, a warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest on a charge of misdemeanor battery.

By Thursday evening, reports were circulating on Twitter that he was in a standoff with police. However, that does not appear to be accurate.

Everything we know about Antonio Brown’s charges and attempted arrest

First and foremost, Brown has not been arrested. According to Sam Brock of NBC News in Miami, police in Tampa have attempted to take the former wide receiver into custody but have not been successful.

“Tampa PD– there have been multiple ‘attempts to take Antonio Brown into custody’ but there is *not an ongoing standoff.* Police say he’s “not communicating,” not sure if he’s even in home at this point, but do not want to risk officer safety over misdemeanor charge,” Brock tweeted.

Some outlets have reported that Brown is in a “standoff” with police at his home but Brock’s reporting refutes that. It would appear that they are simply at his home and attempting to communicate with him.

It has been suggested that Brown has firearms in his home. That would be reason enough for police to use caution while attempting to arrest him, especially because the charge he faces is for a misdemeanor. The last thing the police want to do is to escalate the situation.

What is Antonio Brown being charged with?

According to court documents obtained by Aaron Mesmer of FOX 13, Brown’s ex-wife and the mother of several of his children alleges that Brown locked her out of her home, threatened her and threw a shoe at her during a domestic violence incident on Thursday.

Since the police were called, Brown has not cooperated with them.

To recap: Brown is wanted for a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a domestic violence incident. He is not in a standoff with police but they are still seeking his arrest.
