This Cowboys decision makes intentions for Odell Beckham Jr. clear

The Dallas Cowboys have been clear that they want to add free agent Odell Beckham Jr. but their latest roster decision makes things even clearer.

It’s been possibly the worst-kept secret in NFL history that the Dallas Cowboys want to sign free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Jerry Jones can’t stop talking about it. Players can’t stop trying to recruit him. Fans can’t stop clamoring for it. At this point, even with other contenders involved, it’ll feel like a massive disappointment if OBJ doesn’t end up in Dallas.

And what the Cowboys are doing in regard to their roster as the team is set to have Beckham visit on Monday seems to indicate that they would be just as disappointed as anyone else if he didn’t end up signing in Dallas.

Earlier in the week, the team released veteran defensive end Tarell Basham. The move itself has big-time implications for Beckham as it frees up salary cap space to take on any new contract. But now it appears that Dallas also hasn’t filled that spot on its 53-man roster and won’t have done so when OBJ comes in for his visit on Monday.

Cowboys appear to be holding roster spot for Odell Beckham Jr.

Between Beckham’s Twitter activity liking tweets that connect him to the Cowboys and the team’s loud interest in the receiver, the match between the two parties has long felt natural. That’s even more so the case when you consider the possibility of OBJ joining this high-powered offense led by Dak Prescott and what he could do alongside CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Tony Pollard, Ezekiel Elliott and so on.

Just because the Cowboys are leaving a roster spot for Odell Beckham Jr., though, doesn’t guarantee he’s coming.

Beckham has already met with the Giants and Bills this week prior to his visit with Dallas on Monday. Moreover, teams like the Chiefs and Ravens have also been reported as potential suitors. That’s hefty competition that the Cowboys have to sign him, meaning they have to do their best both in terms of their meeting and financially to sway him to come to America’s Team.

But the team is clearly planning to make OBJ a part of the rest of the season. We’ll just have to wait and see if they’re holding that roster spot for nothing or not. Monday should give us an even better indication of that.
