Eagles center Jason Kelce is such a big fan of Sean Astin he wore an homage to the actor’s “50 First Dates” character. Astin took notice on Twitter.
The intersection between sports and entertainment isn’t so narrow, especially when Twitter can bring athletes and actors together.
This week, it was Eagles center Jason Kelce and “Rudy” actor Sean Astin randomly connecting on the social media platform.
It all started when the official NFL Twitter account asked who did the look better, Jason Kelce in homage or Astin playing Doug from “50 First Dates” himself.

“Without question @JasonKelce,” Astin said in a quote tweet.
Kelce didn’t just see the shoutout. He absolutely loved it.
“No way!! I’ve been a huge fan for a long time Sean!” Kelce replied. “Rudy was my Dad’s favorite sports movie and we watched it many times growing up, I was a walk on linebacker in college, and it meant even more during that. Nobody could possibly wear that outfit better than Doug himself!”
That’s just a cool moment between two beloved figures. Kelce is the stalwart for the Eagles offensive line who has made himself even more loveable with his quirky outfits and general attitude.
Astin became a memorable figure for sports fans with his portrayal of Rudy in the eponymous film about the endlessly persevering Notre Dame walk-on. His portrayal of Samwise Gamgee in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy may be more noteworthy but his appearance as Doug Whitmore in “50 First Dates” deserves plenty of love as well.
