Why Odell Beckham Jr hasn’t been signed yet, explained

Odell Beckham Jr has not yet signed with the Dallas Cowboys, or any other team for that matter. Why hasn’t he signed, and when will he be ready to play?

Odell Beckham Jr. looked ready to sign with the Cowboys as recently as early this week. OBJ was seen out with Dallas players at a Mavericks game, and was asked about the prospect of playing at Jerryworld. Beckham Jr. greeted that possibility with open arms.

Yet, just a day later, Jerry Jones nixed that idea, in part because Beckham Jr. was not cleared to play, and did not work out for Dallas whatsoever.

Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons even pointed out that Beckham Jr.’s timeline was likely five weeks, at the earliest,

Why Odell Beckham Jr hasn’t signed yet

OBJ went on visits to the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys. Dallas, it appears, had the best chance at inking him to a contract.

Nonetheless, the majority if not all three teams don’t want to sign Beckham Jr. if he can’t contribute on the field this season. All three teams are competing for playoff spots in their respective divisions, so it’s understandable.

Beckham Jr. made his feelings very clear on Friday, stressing that he wants to find a contract that is worth his while, and he doesn’t see the point of playing in the regular season. That’s his prerogative, and understandable given he’s been without consistent income since he was let go by the Los Angeles Rams.

Unless OBJ can prove he can play this year, it seems unlikely that he’ll find a long-term home. This offseason, when fully healed from knee surgery, perhaps he’ll have more options available to him. But this late in the season, it was always going to be tough for him to sign on and learn the playbook for a postseason run.

Doing so while still recovering from a serious injury is impossible.
