Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roquan Smith sends Kenny Pickett to the medical tent with vicious sack (Video)

It took one drive for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line to let down rookie QB Kenny Pickett against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 5-7 Steelers have miraculously played their way back into “In the Hunt” AFC Playoff territory, but that won’t last for long if they can’t come away with a victory against the rival Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

On the first series of the game, the vaunted Baltimore defense blitzed Kenny Pickett on third-and-11. That, predictably, did not go well for a young Steelers offensive line. Pickett was slammed to the turf, and may have suffered a head injury of some kind. As of now, his return is uncertain.

There was no malicious intent on the part of the Ravens pass rush, of course.

Will Kenny Pickett return for the Steelers?

Kenny Pickett’s return is uncertain, but Pittsburgh’s initial concern is out of caution, as is the case with all potential concussions.

Patrick Queen made the initial rush through the middle, which Mason Cole handled horribly. Once Pickett was flushed out of the pocket, Roquan Smith did the rest. Pass blocking is something this Steelers offensive line is still working out the kinks on, though their running game has been excellent the last few weeks.

Baltimore’s pass defense ranks near the middle of the pack in the NFL, while their rushing defense is second in DVOA. Because of this, it’s not a surprise to see the Steelers attack through the air, even with a suspect passing attack of their own.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
