Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s simple response to Tom Brady comparisons is gold.
When asked by a reporter what he thinks of the comparisons between himself and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had a genius reply.
“He’s Tom and I’m Joe,” Burrow said.
This a simple statement but a true one.
Burrow elaborated on why he does not care for the comparisons.
“I play the game my own way,” Burrow said. “I have a little bit of everybody. I don’t think I do anything the best, but I do everything among the best.”
Burrow spoke about his admiration for Brady, saying, “He’s the greatest of all time for a reason.”
The Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to face off in Week 15, which will be the first Burrow versus Brady meeting.
Comparing Joe Burrow and Tom Brady’s 2022 seasons
Joe Burrow is having quite an efficient season and has 3,685 passing yards (3rd overall) and 27 touchdowns (2nd overall). His season had a disappointing start as he committed a career-high five turnovers and was sacked seven times in a 23-20 overtime loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.
However, Burrow quickly got back on track. So far, his best game of the season came in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, where he threw for 481 passing yards and three touchdowns. The game was Burrow’s fifth game with over 400 passing yards, setting an NFL record for the most 400-yard games in a player’s first three seasons. It was also his second game with over 500 yards of offense and four touchdowns, making him the first player to accomplish this multiple times.
Currently, the Bengals are 9-4, second in the AFC North division, and are the fifth seed in the AFC playoff picture.
Although the Buccaneers are having an unfortunate season, Tom Brady’s stats would not reflect that. Brady has 3,585 passing yards (fourth overall) and 17 touchdowns (tied for 13th overall).
He has also made more history this season as in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, Brady became the first quarterback in league history to reach 85,000 career passing yards (regular season). In Week 9 against the Los Angeles Rams, he became the first quarterback to reach 100,000 career passing yards (combined regular season and postseason).
The Buccaneers are currently 6-7 and, despite their losing record, are 1st in the NFC South division and 4th seed in the NFC playoff picture.
With Burrow being seen as “the next Brady,” their first-ever matchup is highly anticipated.
The Bengals’ and Buccaneers’ passing offenses are two of the best in the league. Cincinnati averages 268.1 passing yards per game, while Tampa Bay is close behind, averaging 265.7 passing yards.
While the average passing yards per game are close, the average points per game are not. The Bengals average 25.8 points, while the Buccanneers average 17.2. The Bengals have also scored 111 more points than the Buccaneers so far, Cincinnati has 335, and Tampa Bay has 224.
Cincinnati is coming off a 23-10 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 14; meanwhile, Tampa Bay is coming off an abysmal 35-7 loss against the San Francisco 49ers.
