“I’m in a good place right now,” Higgins told reporters, relieved to know Hamlin was doing better.

He got a chance to speak with Hamlin’s mother, who told him she was praying for him while giving him the good news that Hamlin’s condition has improved.

As for what happened on that play, Higgins revealed new details of how it went down on his side of things.

After the initial tackle, Hamlin stood back up, so when Higgins saw him fall back to the ground out of the corner of his eye, he thought he’d flopped after being touched by another Bengals defender. It wasn’t long before he figured out that wasn’t what happened and that something very serious was going on.

“It was hard. Obviously, I wasn’t in a good place to play for the rest of that game so I’m kind of glad we decided not to play,” Higgins said.

The Bengals are getting ready to face the Ravens on Sunday. It’ll undoubtedly be emotional when Higgins and his team suit up to play again but it’ll be whole lot easier knowing Hamlin has woken up and is now on the path to recovery.
