Kansas City mayor claps back at Cincinnati mayor for Patrick Mahomes trash talk

Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas fired back at Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval after trash talk against the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes went viral.

The mayors of cities competing in the NFL playoffs talking a bit of smack to the mayor of the opposing team’s city is nothing new. However, Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval went viral this week with a declaration of “They Gotta Play Us Day” as he took shots at Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs, the city of KC and more in doing so ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals’ AFC Championship clash.

Pureval called out Mahomes for having an 0-3 record against Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow while saying that Burrow could legally be considered the Chiefs signal-caller’s father. He then said that Kansas City was named after a state it’s not actually in, calling it “weird”.

Brittany Mahomes was quick to respond but now Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas has joined the fray.

Lucas first apologized for being late to the party as the trash talk had been circulating the internet but noted that Pureval’s digs were “weak as hell”.

He then quote-tweeted Brittany Mahomes as he noted that the trash talk didn’t deserve a full response, though he did say that Kansas City and the Chiefs “have class” while Cincinnati has “Jerry Springer and no rings” before readying the city for Sunday.

In this battle of words, I’ve got to go advantage Lucas after Round 1.

With that said, the Bengals are traveling to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday for the AFC Championship Game, one of the loudest and toughest places to play in the NFL. Pureval poking the bear — even more so than guys like Mike Hilton and Eli Apple already had — might not be the best recipe for success.
