Kellen Moore makes feelings on Cowboys departure painfully clear

Former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore made his feelings towards the franchise crystal clear. Sometimes, we all need a fresh start.

Kellen Moore signed on to be the new offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers, joining Brandon Staley’s coaching staff. Moore had been the OC in Dallas before the two sides agreed to part ways.

This wasn’t necessarily an indictment of Moore’s coaching abilities, as the Cowboys featured a capable offense all season long. However, things grew stale in the postseason, and the two sides needed a fresh start.

Moore didn’t take a direct shot at the Cowboys, but his new challenge may be a better one. This is especially true given the weapons the Chargers have at their disposal. Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and he has a stable of capable weapons in Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen.

Why did the Cowboys move on from Kellen Moore?

Somehow, despite falling short yet again, Jerry Jones thinks the answer to the Cowboys problem is to give Mike McCarthy more power. McCarthy will take over the play-calling, per Jones, just as he did with the Green Bay Packers all those years ago. McCarthy won a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback.

Can he replicate that same success with Dak Prescott in Dallas?

The Cowboys have some weapons of their own. If they can re-sign Tony Pollard, they’ll have one of the best backfields in all of football with Ezekiel Elliott in tow. CeeDee Lamb is rapidly becoming one of the better young wide receivers in the game. Aside from Lamb, though, Dallas could use another wide receiver to share the load. Michael Gallup and Noah Brown show flashes, but it’s not at a high enough frequency.

Moore is better off in LA, and it’s another step towards his goal of becoming a head coach one day.
