Eric Bieniemy’s response to LeSean McCoy criticism proves he’d be a great head coach

Eric Bieniemy has been pure class in every way since being introduced officially as the Washington Commanders new offensive coordinator.

If Eric Bieniemy isn’t hired as an NFL head coach within the next three years, then we have a serious problem on our hands. Bieniemy, who arguably earned a coaching opportunity already, has been mentioned in the head coaching cycle for the last several years, only to get passed over continuously.

This year, he got a lateral move to the Washington Commanders that comes with a few extra perks, possibly leading to it reading more like a promotion. He’s an official “assistant coach” in addition to being the team’s offensive coordinator now, a title he didn’t have with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In addition to his role leading the Chiefs to three Super Bowl appearances in the last four years, and two wins, Bieniemy has also shown he has the public relations capacity to be a head coach as well the last few days. So much of being a head coach is messaging and story-telling with the media.

Bieniemy took the high road with one of his loudest and harshest critics.

LeSean McCoy owes Eric Bieniemy a huge apology after this

When Bieniemy was hired, LeSean McCoy said he was rooting for him, but had little faith in him. He claimed he hid behind the greatness of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, despite the coach and quarterback giving massively positive remarks about his performance over the years in Kansas City.

McCoy played just one year in KC with Bieniemy, yet claimed to be the expert based on his observations of how the man worked.

Bieniemy could have thought of a crafty comeback to McCoy. He could have said something like… “Well, he didn’t hear very much from me because his year in Kansas City was one of the worst of his individual career,” or, “Well the Jerk Store called, they’re running out of you!

Or something petty like that. I think most of us would have understood if he took that route.

Instead, he took the high road, as a head coach would.

“LeSean McCoy is a future Hall of Famer,” Bieniemy said. “Everybody’s entitled to their own position, to their own comments and how they feel. When it’s all said and done with, I think that’s all I have to say because he’s entitled to his own opinion. That’s life.”

Absolutely elite display of maturity. Thanks for being the adult in the room, Bieniemy. Hope to see you coaching a team real soon.
