The Dallas Cowboys are entering a critical offseason. Let’s break down eight potential free-agent targets.

The Dallas Cowboys, once again, fell short of expectations, as they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

The Cowboys have a talented roster, but it is evident that they need to make moves this offseason. It will not be easy, though. At the moment, they have -$18.774 million in estimated cap space, per Spotrac. However, the Cowboys can free up an additional $33.385 million in cap space with the following moves:

  • Restructure Dak Prescott ($14,917,500)
  • Restructure Michael Gallup ($7,440,000)
  • Restructure Zack Martin ($6,167,500)
  • Waive Ezekiel Elliott ($4,860,000)

If they create the cap space, who should be at the top of the Cowboys free-agent board?

8. Bryce Callahan, CB

Over the past few seasons, Callahan has quietly been one of the most effective slot cornerbacks in the NFL.

In 2020, he allowed a passer rating of only 47.8 when targeted, which was the lowest in the NFL.

In 2021, he had another great season for the Denver Broncos. In 11 games, he allowed a completion percentage of 56.8 percent, which was eight percent lower than the league average.

During the 2022 offseason, Callahan signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. He went on to play in 15 games and played 586 defensive snaps. In pass coverage, he gave up a passer rating of 80.0. It was 9.1 points below the league average and the second-best mark among the Chargers’ defensive backs. In addition, he came up with a career-high three interceptions.

Callahan is not the flashiest player. He stands at only 5-foot-9, and his last contract was for $1.27 million. Nevertheless, his numbers are consistently excellent. He would be a great under-the-radar addition to the Cowboys’ secondary.
