NFL rumors: Chiefs could replace Orlando Brown Jr. with blockbuster trade

The Kansas City Chiefs have engaged in trade talks for a Pro Bowl offensive tackle.

The Kansas City Chiefs are moving on from offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., according to NFL Network’s James Palmer.

Brown is a massive loss. He is a four-time Pro Bowler. In 2022, he logged 1,133 offensive snaps for the Chiefs and posted a PFF grade of 75.8.

As a result, the Chiefs made a big move. They signed offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor to a four-year, $80 million deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Over the last four seasons, Taylor started all 66 games for the Jaguars. In Jacksonville, he played right tackle, while Cam Robinson played left tackle.

Palmer noted that Taylor is expected to play left tackle for the Chiefs moving forward.

However, there is still the possibility that the reigning Super Bowl champions could make a big move to add another tackle.

Chiefs have discussed a Laremy Tunsil trade

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC, KC have discussed a potential trade for Houston Texans offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.

The three-time Pro Bowler would be a huge addition to the Chiefs. He outperformed both Brown and Taylor last season. In 1,061 offensive snaps, he gave up only one sack and recorded an 80.0 PFF grade.

Tunsil will be entering the final year of his contract. If Kansas City traded for him, they would be responsible for his $18.5 million base salary. Given his performance, that number is actually a solid value. Excluding today’s free agent deals, it would be tied for the fifth-highest salary among offensive tackles in the NFL.

Yes, the Texans are rebuilding. Still, it is surprising that they are discussing Tunsil in deals. Offensive tackle is one of the most important positions in football, and Tunsil is still only 28 years old. If the Texans draft Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, or Anthony Richardson, Tunsil could make their lives much easier and better position them for immediate success.

From the Texans’ perspective, they should ask for a first-round pick and something extra.
