Browns fear worst for wideout injured in offseason Deshaun Watson workouts

The Browns got the worst news possible on wideout Michael Woods II, who was recently injured in an offseason workout with Deshaun Watson.

Cleveland Browns wideout Michael Woods may have suffered a torn Achilles while working out with quarterback Deshaun Watson in Texas.

The team is still waiting on an official diagnosis, but it certainly doesn’t look good for the 2022 sixth-rounder.

Woods was set to enter his second year with the Browns after playing in 10 games in his rookie season; he posted just five catches for 45 yards.

His latest injury deals a minor blow to Cleveland’s receiver depth and could push the team toward signing another pass-catcher this offseason.

Last month, the Browns were rumored to be interested in Denver Broncos’ Jerry Jeudy, though the Broncos’ asking price was deemed too high. Rather than fork over a first-round pick, there are other bargain-bin wideout options they can bring on to pad their receiver room.

Heading into 2023, Cleveland’s starting trio doesn’t look too shabby: they have Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and the newly acquired Elijah Moore. That’s a solid group for Deshaun Watson to throw to, and Watson himself has clearly been using this offseason to get back into prime shape.

In the six games he played after serving his suspension, Watson recorded 1,102 passing yards and threw seven touchdowns against five interceptions. For as long as he plays professional football, he’ll embody the league’s most widely despised villain and for good reason.

As for Cleveland, they may now enter the season down a promising wide receiver. Thankfully, the NFL Draft is a good place to address that need. Expect Joe Woods and Co. to do the right thing and select one of college football’s finest in the mid-to-late rounds.
