Arizona Cardinals, NFL Draft

Today in irrational confidence, Cardinals rookie has a wild take on QB class

Listen to Clayton Tune signing out of key without a little help from his friends at his first Arizona Cardinals press conference.

Clayton Tune may consider himself the songbird of his generation, but Houston’s Brennan Huff didn’t learn to read a room while he was in college. Easy on the fancy sauce, dude…

Tune was one of several quarterbacks taken in the 2023 NFL Draft. He went to the Arizona Cardinals on Day 3. Although this is one of the least talented teams in the league, he can’t possibly believe what he is saying. No amount of Dana Holgorsen Red Bull concoctions can overcome the unrelenting truth serum. Tune is a fine quarterback, but he is not the draft’s best.

Here is Tune singing off-key to the point of sounding incredibly tone-deaf at his first pro presser.

“I think I’m the best quarterback in this class and God’s got a plan for me, so I wasn’t too stressed about it. I didn’t have too many expectations, but I’m just happy to be a part of such a great organization and be able to live out my dream. I’m just happy to go in there to work and compete.”

The last time I heard something this ridiculous coming out of a player’s mouth in the aftermath of being drafted, Utah offensive linemen Garret Bolles actually thought his infant son resting in his arms would remember him being drafted by the Denver Broncos. Either that kid is a baby genius or Bolles has complex issues understand the concept of time. At least he was able to sing in key…

I may think I’m the best sports stooge to grace god’s green earth, but I do know what sarcasm is.

Arizona Cardinals rookie QB thinks he is best player at his position in NFL Draft

The last time I have seen a quarterback with this level of irrational confidence, Jeff Driskel played at Florida. It didn’t work out for him, or really anywhere else after that, but his confidence always made a believer out of me. I’m joking, but I do subscribe to the Damian Lillard theory of irrational confidence. Is Dame the best player in the NBA? No, but should he think he is? Sure, … why not?

A lot of this heat coming Tune’s way has everything to do with the down season the Cougars had last year. I mean, they had the schedule to go 12-0, win The American one final time, win the Group of Five and make the College Football Playoff. Instead, a two-win Tulane team flipped the script. Michael Pratt took all of his shine, all while Willie Fritz told Georgia Tech to kick some rocks.

In all honesty, I do think Tune is a good player and that he can have success in the NFL. However, the Cardinals will only be as good or as bad as Kyler Murray allows them to be. If he is more about the Call of Duty than the playbook, then maybe Tune can sneak up on us? He isn’t going to be a one-hit wonder in the NFL, but I don’t think we will see him become a top-40 quarterback either.

Even with a new regime in town, it feels like the same old song and dance for the Cardinals again.
